Beschreibung The Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering GmbH (RCPE) is a Research Center in the field of Pharmaceutical Engineering. Our goal is to establish technology to transform current product and processes development approaches in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics
industries into a science-based endeavor together with our partners.

PAID DIPLOMA THESIS
Rheology of microparticle suspensions
Ref.Nr. DA21

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:
In this experimental project, we study the rheological properties of
concentrated suspensions of micro particles. For decades, it has been
observed that such complex fluids develop non-Newtonian behavior. If
this effect is classically attributed to particle-particle interactions as well as particle fluid interactions, the general understanding and modeling of the phenomena remain poor. Indeed, most of these suspensions (drugs, paintings, inks, cements,…) have very complex formulation which often prevents consensual interpretation.
Here, we propose to characterize simple suspensions using capillary and
elongational viscometers. By varying systematically the particle volume
fraction and particle sizes, a comprehensive set of data will be collected allowing to better understand the physical origin of this non-Newtonian
behavior. The introduction of rod shaped particles is of great interest as practically only a few applications deal with regular spheres.

YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preparation of the suspensions,
- Rheological characterization,
- Parameters to vary: volume fraction of particles, particle size distribution, particle shape,

START: may start immediately

We offer
- a multidisciplinary and dynamic research environment in the area of
pharmaceutical engineering,
- Mentoring and on-the-job training by a our qualified staff, and
- an adequate payment as well as the chance for personal and technical development in the area of pharmaceutical engineering.

We look forward to receiving your application!
